Good Sunday morning. I have a masculine winter deer scene card to share with you today. There is a funny story behind the making of this card. Well…..it wasn’t so funny when Cody, my Bichon puppy got up on the chair at my desk and took the Wildlife Tag (see below) and chewed off the top portion of it. I had to chase him several laps around the dining room table to capture it and almost needed the “jaws of life” to get it out of his clinched teeth. LOL! At first I thought it was totally ruined but as I examined it more closely I decided the lower portion of the scene could be saved if I covered up the damage with a frame. So I pulled out one of my favorite frame dies, Square Combo #1 and created a frame just the right size to allow the major portion of the scene to show and that covered up the teeth marks left on the sky portion of the scene. The scene was made using the Wildlife Set, Pine Tree Forest, Tree in Oval, 3 Pine Trees, Deckle Hills, Greenery and Small Birds.
You can find the original Die Cut Christmas Tags post along with a beautiful poinsettia tag here.
Doesn’t he look way too innocent to have pulled such a dirty trick. Don’t be fooled. He got up on my desk yesterday and took two die sets, chewed up the packaging and slung the dies all over the room. Note to self: Keep the door shut or keep the chair pulled well away from the desk when unattended.
The Tree Background and Frame
- Cut the background layer using white cardstock.
- Secure the background layer in the MISTI and stamp the trees using Peeled Paint ink.
- Apply Tumbled Glass to the sky area using an ink blending tool.
- Cut the frame using red and green cardstock.
- Cut the tree portion of the Tree in Oval using green cardstock.
- Cut the Pine Tree Forest using green cardstock.
- Cut two snow sections using Deckle Hills and white cardstock..
- Apply double stick tape to the back of the frame and attach the front snow layer and large tree.
- Apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame, attach the second snow layer and attach the whole frame section to the card base.
The Buck, Birds and Greenery
- Cut a set of greenery using green cardstock and use a tiny brush to apply white gesso to the tips and set aside to dry.
- Cut the buck using white cardstock.
- Color the buck using Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink and mini applicators. Check out my coloring die cut animals tutorial if you would like to see how I apply the ink to the buck.
- Cut a section of birds using red cardstock.
- Cut three or four trees off the Pine Tree Forest and tuck it in behind the snow layer and attach with mounting tape.
- Attach the buck in behind the first snow layer and attach to the base using a piece of mounting tape.
- Attach pieces of white tipped greenery in behind the snow layer and around the buck and attach with glossy accents.
- Finish by attaching the birds using small pieces of mounting tape.
I hope you enjoyed reading my “puppy tale”. I have two puppies, Cody and Mickey and although I love them dearly there are times when I would like to take them out to play in the traffic. LOL!
I had fun saving the injured tag and creating a winter deer scene card with it. Have you had a chance to check out the Rubbernecker Black Friday Sale? You don’t want to miss out on all the items in the sale category. Have a great day and thank you so much for coming by.

LOL I DO KNOW the feeling, Kittie! 😉 Your tags are WONDERFUL! Your scenes are DELIGHTFUL!!! I’m SO GLAD you were able to retrieve & save the tag! I have to prop a baby gate on my chair, just so, so that our kitties won’t climb on my desk & find things to chew up! We have ONE in particular who is a chewer– the littlest one! Like a puppy! Anytime I find them on my desk, I chase them off. THEY KNOW they aren’t to be up there! LOL (She LOVES plastic too! That one could be fatal if she doesn’t stop!)
I like these very much. I am going to see if I already have something that will work along this line. I do like the combo square #1. I’ll look into a couple of these dies.
That was a good save, you would never know this was a card you had to wrestle from your dogs mouth 🙂 Love how you get such depth with the stamping of your background trees!
