Splatter Snowy Background

My project today is a splatter snowy background card made for Dare To Get Dirty Day 6 of the Splitcoaststampers Dare To Get Dirty week long challenge event. This event is a special thank you to all of the fan club members who support the site all year long. Have you had a desire to be on the Dirty Dozen design team? This special week of challenges will give you tons of opportunity to be inspired and to show off your wonderful and creative projects right along with the current Dirty Dozen team as well as the alumni team members.  Are you a member of the Splitcoaststampers Fan Club? If not go here to check out all the benefits of being a member. If you are a member hop right on over the special challenge forum here.

For this card I used the Tree in Oval, Deer Family, Deckle Hills, Small Birds and Greenery #1

Come see how I made this splatter snowy background.

Splatter Snowy Background

  • Place a piece of dark blue cardstock in the Splatter Cubby.
  • Apply a small amount of white Gesso paint to an old toothbrush.
  • Use your finger to flick the paint on the cardstock.  Continue the process until you are happy with the snowy coverage.
  • Allow the snow to dry and then attach the layer to the card base using double stick tape.

Come see how I made this pretty splatter snowy background.

The Die Cut Silhouette Scene

  • Cut all the images using white cardstock.
  • Apply mounting tape all the way around the back of the frame.
  • Cut the snow layer to fit behind the oval and attach to the lower portion of the frame.
  • Apply double stick tape to the back of the snow layer and then attach the whole frame to the blue card base.
  • Tuck the deer in behind the snow layer and attach to the card base using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Tuck the greenery in behind the frame and snow layer and attach using glossy accents.
  • Finish by attaching one small bird to the sky area using a piece of mounting tape.

Come see how I made this easy splatter snowy background.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this clean and simple splatter snowy background card.  Creating the splatter background is so fast and easy and I love how it creates the appearance of a soft falling snow.  I think the all white images are so pretty against the dark blue.  The splatter snow would also be pretty done against a soft blue background for a day time scene.  I would recommend using more paint on the brush to create larger splatters so it would show up well against the lighter blue.  Thanks for coming by and I hope you have a great day.

  1. Kittie – this is so lovely. I have the oval die (inspiration from another one of your cards) and love this look. Did you add a bit of shading to pieces of the dies? Just had cataract surgery, so it could be my eyes! In any event, your posts are always a treat. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.

    • Hi Diana, thank you so much for your comment. The shading on the dies are just a result of my lighting. In reality the dies are all pure white.
