I love creating wildlife Christmas cards with deer and sparkly snow. For this card I chose to use muted colors to create a peaceful scene. The tree, deer and birds were are colored with the same gray ink and the blue sky and white sparkly snow created a soft background for the images. I used the Rubbernecker Deer Family, Deckle Frame, Small Birds and Fall Foliage tree for this project.
The Sky, Tree and Snow
- Cut a piece of Eclipse masking tape wide enough to fit across the scene base.
- Use deckle scissors to cut a curved mask to use to cover the ground area and attach to the scene base.
- Apply the clouds to the sky area using Tumbled Glass ink, an ink blending tool and cloud stencil.
- Remove the mask and stamp the tree using Pumice Stone ink.
- Use a mini applicator to add shading around the tree trunk and to create a walking path in the snow area.
- Apply white embossing paste to the ground area with your finger and sprinkle with clear glitter white the paste is still wet.
- Use a sharp point like your paper piercer to apply touches of embossing paste to the tree branches and sprinkle with clear glitter.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the scene layer and attach it to the card base.
The Frame, Deer and Birds
- Cut the frame and deer using white cardstock.
- Apply strips of mounting tape to the frame and attach it to the card base.
- Use Pumice stone ink and a mini applicator to color the deer and birds.
- Tuck the deer in behind the frame and attach them using pieces of mounting tape. Note: Adhesive doesn’t really like to stick to the embossing paste-glitter layer. Once I knew where I wanted to attach the deer I scraped off the paste and glitter to create a bald spot that the mounting tape could attach to.
- Finish by attaching small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the birds and attach to the scene and frame.
