Cards with Pickup Trucks are Popular for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is the perfect occasion to make cards with pickup trucks.  I think we all struggle to come up with ideas for masculine cards.  I like to turn to my old faithful pick up truck die, whether in a snowy winter scene for Christmas, a summer beach scene or even a sunny country scene with a tree and a few flowers and birds.  For my project today I used the Rubbernecker Truck, Inside Scallop Nested Die, Grass, Winter Tree, Spring Leaves, Flower Stems, Tiny Flower Buds, Small Birds and Mixable Flower Stack 5107D.

Cards with pickup trucks are popular for Father's Day. Come see how to make one of your own.

The Scene Base and Grass

  • Cut the card base and inside scallop layer using white cardstock and the background layer using green cardstock.
  • Apply strips of masking tape around the border of the scallop layer.
  • Use a large blender brush and Tumbled Glass ink to apply a blue sky background for the scene.
  • Cut two grass sections using green cardstock and cut them a second time using the scallop die to create the matching bottom and sides.
  • Attach the scene base to the green layer using ATG adhesive and then attach them to the card base using strips of mounting tape.

The Pickup Truck

  • Cut the truck sections using aqua, black and grey cardstock.
  • Secure the door by attaching it in place on the back using strips of double stick tape.
  • Attach the fender section to the truck base using a rolled up rope of double stick tape.  Note:  I use rolled up double stick tape instead of mounting tape when I only want a slight elevation of the image.
  • Attach the wheel sections together using glossy accents and attach them to the truck using glossy accents.
  • Finish the truck by attaching the tiny headlight, bumpers and door handle using glossy accents.

Cards with pickup trucks are on trend for Father's Day. Come over to see how surrounded this truck with a pretty scene.

The Tree

  • Cut the winter tree using Kraft cardstock.
  • Apply Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink to the tree.
  • Trim the top branches of the tree to create a smaller tree to fit in the scene.
  • Cut the leaves using green cardstock and form them slightly using the leaf tool and molding pad.
  • Attach the leaves to the branches using glossy accents.

The Flowers, Birds and Sun

  • Cut the birds, tiny flower buds and sun using yellow cardstock.
  • Use green cardstock to cut the flower stems.
  • Form the tiny flower buds using a small tipped stylus and molding pad.
  • Attach the tiny flowers to the stems using glossy accents.
  • Use a mini applicator to attach Citrus ink to the bird bodies and color the beaks using a black marker.

Assemble the Pickup Truck Scene

  • Tuck the tree in behind the grass section and attach using rolled up double stick tape.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the flower stems in behind the grass sections.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the truck and attach it to the front grass section.
  • Use tiny pieces of mounting tape to attach the birds to the scene.
  • Finish by attaching the sun to the top corner of the scene using mounting tape.  Note: I was inspired by my friend, Julie Warner to use the flower for a sun.  For larger scenes I like to use the Rubbernecker sun from the Sun Moon set.
