Gnome cards are still going strong and I just love how fun and cute and RELATABLE they are so I made this side step card with gnomes who are SO excited to show off their cottage all decorated for the holidays! Are they not the CUTEST? For this card I used the Rubbernecker Gnome Couple, Evergreen Trees, Winter Tree, Spooky House, Deckle Hills, Greenery #2, Small Birds, Globe Tree (star) and the Splatter Background. The card base is from the The Paper Cut Outer Stair Step Card Kit.
The Side Step Card Base
- Cut the step card using white cardstock.
- Cut pieces of light blue cardstock to fit on the left side of the card and tall enough to match the front panel in height when folded down. Note: I could have used the light blue cardstock to cut the card base but I like adding background layers because it helps strengthen the base.
- Use ATG adhesive to attach the blue layers to the card base.
- Use white cardstock and Deckle Hills to cut snow layers.
- Cut two strips 5 1/2″ wide and approximately 1″ tall.
- Cut two strips 3 3/8″ wide and approximately 1 1/2″ tall.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the two front snow layers and attach them to the front of the card.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the two smaller snow layers and attach them to the steps.
- Cut a 4.00″ x 1.00″ strip of white cardstock and score it at 1.00″, 2.00″ and 3.00″.
- Fold the center score to create a mountain and the two side score lines to create valleys.
- Apply double stick tape to the two end sections and attach the folded strip to the inside of the right side of the card. Note: I use the fold strip to create a brace to help keep the card standing when open.
The Trees and Foliage
- Use brown cardstock to cut the Winter Tree and green cardstock to cut the Evergreen Trees and foliage.
- Pat the evergreen trees using the embossing magic bag to remove the static cling.
- Stamp the evergreen trees using the Splatter Background and white pigment ink, sprinkle the trees white white embossing powder and heat.
- Use white Nuvo Crystal Drops to create patches of snow on the winter tree branches and sprinkle with clear glitter to add a little sparkle. Set the tree aside to dry.
- Note: I usually like to apply brown shades of ink to the Winter Tree but the ink bleeds through the Nuvo Drops.
The Spooky House
- Cut the house using white and red cardstock.
- Modify the house by cutting off the right roof top section and hand cut a little white chimney topper/
- Apply rolled up double stick tape to the back of the two roof sections and chimney topper and attach them to the house.
- Apply glossy accents to the back of the window sections and door and attach them to the house.
- Cut greenery branches apart and attach them to the roof section, door and windows.
- Finish the house by punching out 1/6″ red circles and attach them to the greenery using glossy accents. Note: I punch the circles out over my molding pad and use my reverse tweezers to pick the circles up. The molding pad allows my tweezers points to slip under the circle and makes it easy to pick up. And yes….I have to use my strongest reading glasses to see these tiny pieces. LOL!
I’m showing the picture above so you can see the brace that I attached inside the fold.
The Gnomes
- Cut the gnomes using red, white, green and black cardstock.
- Assemble the hat sections together and attach the pieces using glossy accents.
- Color the white gnome heads using a Cashmere Copic marker to create the skin shade.
- Apply Chill ink to the white beard section using a mini applicator.
- Color the white braids using Mango and Citrus inks with mini applicators.
- Color the noses using a Posy ink and mini applicator.
- Use rolled up double stick tape to attach the hats to the gnome heads and to attach the beard.
- Assemble all the gnome body parts and attach them together using glossy accents.
Assemble the Scene
- Tuck the house in behind the back step snow layer and attach it to the card base layer using mounting tape.
- Apply strips of rolled up double stick tape to the back of the winter tree trunk and large branches and attach it to the card base.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the evergreen trees and attach them to the snow layers and card base.
- Tuck evergreen branches in behind the snow layers and attach using glossy accents.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the gnomes and attach them to the front layer of the card.
- Finish by cutting red birds and attaching them to the scene using small pieces of mounting tape.
So once you have the dies and the side step premade cards, you absolutely can put together your OWN side step card with gnomes in any scene! Would you do a winter scene like this? Or maybe…….gnomes at the beach? LOL! Either way, you will be on trend and having fun making them!
