Fall Side Step Card

I changed things up a bit from making spring projects and made a fall side step card.  I wanted to use the new Rubbernecker Garden Tools set again and my mind jumped straight to falling leaves, pumpkins in the garden and squirrels jumping from place to place looking for acorns.  For this project I also used the Winter Tree, the new Spring Leaves, Wagon, Pumpkins and Ivy, Chicken/Squirrels, Leaves and Greenery, Picket Fence and Grass.  The card base was made using The Paper Cut Outer Stair Step Card kit.

It is so much fun to create a dimensional scene like this fall side step card. Click on the photo to see how I made this card.

The Side Step Card Base

  • Cut a piece of white cardstock 3 3/8″ wide and tall enough to match the front panel in height when folded down.
  • Apply clouds using light blue ink, a blender brush and cloud template to both the front panel and tall side step panel.
  • Use Green cardstock to cut grass layers.
    • Cut three strips 5 1/2″  wide and approximately 1″ tall.
    • Cut two strips 3 3/8″ wide and approximately 1 1/2″ tall.
  • Use white cardstock to cut two sections of the picket fence..

Assemble the Base Pieces

  • Attach the tall cloud layer to the back stair step using double stick tape.
  • Apply double stick tape to the lower back portions of the two grass sections to cover the center and back step section and attach them in place.
  • Use strips of mounting tape on the back of the picket fence sections and attach them to the card base.
  • Attach the front grass sections to the front card base using double stick tape.

It is so much fun to create a dimensional scene like this fall side step card. Click on the picture to see how I made this card.

The Tree and Leaves

  • Cut the tree using Kraft cardstock and apply ink directly to the paper using the brown ink pad.
  • Use white cardstock to cut several sections of the leaves and color them using a mini applicator and green, rust and orange inks.
  • Form the leaves using the leaf tool and molding pad.
  • Attach the leaves to the tree branches using glossy accents.
  • Use a strip of mounting tape on the back of the tree trunk and rolled glue dots on the back of some of the leaves and attach it to the card base.

Color the Wagon, Pumpkins, Garden Tools and Squirrels

  • Use gray cardstock to cut the wagon and garden tools, yellow cardstock to cut the pumpkins and white cardstock to cut the squirrels.
  • Use mini applicators to apply mustard and orange inks to color the pumpkins and brown ink to color the stems.
  • Color the wagon using mini applicators and brown and rust inks.
  • Apply light and dark brown inks with mini applicators to color the squirrels.
  • Color the garden tools with orange ink and a mini applicator.

Finish the Fall Side Step Card

  • Attach layers of the fall leaves on a small scrap piece of cardstock using gloss accents and attach it to the back of the wagon.
  • Apply mounting tape to the wagon full of leaves and attach it to the back step.
  • Tuck the pumpkins in behind the grass layers and attach using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Attach the front rake to the card front with rolled up glue dots.
  • Tuck the second rake in the wagon leaves and attach using glossy accents.
  • Cut green vines from the Leaves and Greenery set and attach them to the fence and in between the grass layers using glossy accents.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the squirrels and attach one to the front grass section and one to the back fence.

It is so much fun to create a dimensional scene like this fall side step card. Click on the picture to see how I made this colorful card.

I really enjoyed pulling out the fall colored inks to create this fall side step card.  It is so rewarding to see all the images come together to create such a colorful and lifelike scene.  The side steps help create dimension and draws the eye from the front tree all the way back to the wheelbarrow full of leaves and the squirrel on the back fence.  If you would like more inspiration check out my step card category.. Thank you for coming by today and I hope you will take your extra time at home to start thinking ahead to making fall and holiday cards.

And Now A Side Step Card From A Precut Kit!

The other day I shared this project and today I want to show you another fabulous “card starter” with the side step card base, also from The Paper Cut. Using precut card templates from card kits is a smart and easy way to create a dimensional card and give your inspiration a reality.  For this cute scene card I used the Rubbernecker Winter Tree, Patio Set, Grass, Leaf Group, Leaf Buds , Knob Top Fence, Flower Buds, Tiny Flower Buds, Small Flowers #1, Mixable Flower Stack 5107D (sun), Small Butterflies and Cloud Tree.

Come see how I created this cute side step card using a precut base to make it so easy!

The Stair Step Card Base

  • Use green cardstock to cut the grass layers.
    • Cut two strip 5 1/2″  wide and approximately 1 1/2″ tall.
    • Cut two strips 3 3/8″ wide and approximately 1 1/2″ tall.
  • Use blue card stock to cut the front panel and the back stair step panel.
  • Attach the blue layers to the front panel and back stair step using ATG adhesive,
  • Apply ATG adhesive to the grass layers and attach them to the card base and steps.

The Fence and Tree

  • Use Kraft cardstock to cut the tree and apply Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink by swiping the pads directly over the cardstock.  Note:  After applying ink to the tree I like to blend the ink colors with a wet baby wipe and then I heat dry.
  • Cut the leaf buds using green cardstock and the tiny flowers using pink cardstock and attach them to the tree branches using glossy accents. Note: form the tiny flower buds using a small tipped stylus and molding pad.
  • Tuck the tree in behind the grass layer on the back stair step and attach using glossy accents.
  • Cut two sections of fence, overlap the two sections together and attach using glossy accents.
  • Trim the fence to fit the stair step, attach the fence posts on both sides and tuck in behind the grass section and attach using strips of mounting tape.

Today's side step card is loaded with cute details - come check them out!

The Patio Table

  • Use gold metallic cardstock to cut the table, chairs and umbrella stand and aqua cardstock to cut the umbrella.
  • Place a strip of 1/8″ ink double stick tape on a clean surface.
  • Roll the double stick tape into a thin rope with your finger.double stick tape 2
  •
  • Attach the thin strips of rolled up tape to the back of the table, chairs and umbrella stand and attach to the card base.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of  the umbrella and attach it to the card base.

The Sun, Flowers, Cloud and Butterflies

  • Use green cardstock to cut the leaf group sections and cut the branches apart to use as flower stems.
  • Cut the flowers using multiple colors of pastel cardstock and form the flowers using a stylus and molding pad.
  • Attach the flowers to the branches using glossy accents.
  • Tuck the branches in behind the grass sections and attach using glossy accents.
  • Cut the sun using bright yellow cardstock and cloud using white cardstock and attach them to the card base using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Cut the butterflies using bright yellow cardstock and attach them to the scene using glossy accents.
  • For the finishing touch create a tiny floral arrangement for the table using leaf buds and tiny flower buds and attach them using glossy accents.

Making a side step card like this can be super easy when you start with a precut base - come learn more!

Have you ever made one of these cards? If the complicated cutting instructions have been an obstacle, think about grabbing a packet of the side step card templates and make it easy!  You can find lots and lots of stair step card inspiration on Pinterest.  I sure do appreciate you coming by and I hope you have a great day.

Side step cards are perfect to create dimensional cards.

Using a Stair Step Card Template As a Base

Today I wanted to share with you a cute way to use a stair step card template – this one from The Paper cut – as a base for any kind of card. For this card I chose a sweet little country cottage with some easy-to-do evergreen trees.  I used the Rubbernecker Spooky House, Evergreen Trees, Wrought Iron Fence, Grass, Small Ivy, Small Flowers #1, Tiny Flower Buds, Leaf Buds and Small Birds.  The card base was made using the Inner Stair Step Card kit. This card folds to an A2 sized card.

Click through to see how I used a premade stair step card template to create this cute card.

The Brick House

  • Use Kraft cardstock to cut the house base , roof and window sections.
  • Secure the brick stencil and house with masking tape.
  • Apply Antique Linen, Rusty Hinge, Fired Brick, Pumice Stone and Vintage Photo inks using blender brushes and mini applicators to create the colorful brick pattern.
  • Remove the brick stencil and run the Antique Linen ink pad directly over the house to apply color to the mortar lines and blend all the brick colors together.
  • Apply Vintage Photo ink to the windows and roof sections using a mini applicator.
  • Attach the windows using glossy accents and the roof and chimney sections using ropes of rolled up double stick tape.
  • Cut leaf buds using green cardstock and tiny flowers using yellow cardstock and attach to the windows using glossy accents.
  • Note: I modified the Spooky House by cutting off a section of the roof to create a more traditional style house.

The Inner Stair Step Card Base

  • Cut blue cardstock sections to fit on the front of the card base and attach using ATG adhesive.
  • Use green cardstock to cut three grass sections to fit all the way across the front of the base and smaller sections to fit on the inner stair steps.
  • Attach two of the front grass sections to the base using double stick tape.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the front grass layer and attach it to the card base.
  • Use double stick tape to attach the small grass sections to the inner stair steps.

Believe it or not, the hard work on this card was done using a premade stair step card template - click through to see more!

The Evergreen Trees, Flowers, Fence and Birds

  • Use two different colors of green cardstock to cut the evergreen trees.
  • Cut the small ivy using green cardstock and the small flowers and birds using yellow cardstock.
  • Apply touches of Wild Honey ink to the birds using a mini applicator.
  • Form the small flowers using a stylus and molding pad and attach them to the small ivy sections using glossy accents.
  • Cut the fence sections using black cardstock.

Assemble The Card

  • Secure the house in behind the grass on the middle stair step sections and attach using mounting tape.
  • Tuck the evergreen trees in behind the grass sections on the front card base and on the last stair step section in the back and attach using mounting tape.
  • Attach the small ivy/flower sections in behind the top grass section on the card front using glossy accents.
  • Apply glossy accents to the bottom portion of the fence sections and attach in behind the front grass section.
  • Attach a row of small ivy/flower sections along the front of the fence and attach using glossy accents.
  • Finish by attaching birds to the scene using small pieces of mounting tape.
  • Note:  I attach small cardstock tabs to the inside of the card base so that it will stand tall and doesn’t allow it to collapse back when opened.

I love using precut templates and this stair step card template made creating this card so much easier! Come see how.

I encourage you to get or make a stair step card template to use to make easy dimensional cards that you can execute in any way – check back for more inspiration and ideas around this kind of card!.  Check out some of my other step cards in the Step Card Category.  And, there is tons of Step Card inspiration on Pinterest.  Thank you for coming by and I hope you have a great week.

Using a stair step card template is lots of fun and makes such a creative dimensional card.

Snowman Stair Step Card

My project today is a snowman stair step card with lots of trees, bunnies and a red truck in the background.  I used Rubbernecker Stamps Snowman, Tree in Oval, Truck, Deckle Hills, Bunnies and Small Birds.  I stamped a soft blue falling snow background using the Splatter Background although I covered most of it up with the trees.  I tucked the red truck in the back of the scene to add an additional touch of red and interest.

Come see how I made this cute snowman stair step card.

The Card Base, Snow Layers and Trees

  • Apply Tumbled Glass ink to the Splatter Background and stamp it to cover the inner stair step card base.
  • Fold the card base score lines to create the steps.
  • Cut the snow layers using the Deckle Hills and attach them to the front and inner steps using double stick tape.
  • Use green cardstock to cut several trees from the Tree in Oval set.
  • Tuck the trees in behind the snow layers and attach to the card base using strips of mounting tape.

The Snowman and Truck

  • Cut the snowman parts using white, red, black, Kraft and gingham paper.
  • Attach the two smaller body parts together using glossy accents.
  • Attach the nose, eyes and mouth pieces to the face using glossy accents.
  • Use mounting tape to attach the hat and earmuffs to the snowman head.
  • Cut the truck using red, black and white cardstock.
  • Attach the fender to the truck base using strips of rolled up double stick tape.
  • Attach the tires to the truck base using glossy accents.
  • Use mounting tape to attach the truck and snowman to the card base.

Come see how I made this snowman stair step card.

The Bunnies and Cardinals

  • Use white cardstock to cut the bunnies.
  • Cut the birds using red cardstock and apply black to their beaks using a Copic marker.
  • Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the birds and attach to the card base and tree.

Come see how I made this winter snowman stair step card.

Assemble the Garden Side Step Card

  • Apply thin strips of mounting tape and rolled glue dots to the back of the tree, tuck it in behind the fence and attach it to the card base.
  • Cut off the branches of the some of the Leaf Group sections.
  • Attach small branches and flowers to the flower pots using glossy accents.
  • Apply flowers to larger sections of the Leaf Group using glossy accents, tuck them in behind the grass sections of the center and back steps and attach with glossy accents.
  • Attach flower pots to the back of the wheelbarrow using glossy accents and then tuck the wheelbarrow to the back step using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Tuck the flower pots and watering can in behind the front grass section and attach to the fence with strips of mounting tape.

I had lots of fun creating this garden side step card.  I love how the side steps allow for creating so much dimension and interest.  Have you tried you creating a side step card of your own.  If so please leave a comment here on this post with a link to your project.  I would love to see what you came up with.  I appreciate you coming by and I hope you have a great day.

Good Monday morning.  Today I’m sharing a die cut lighthouse step card.  I’ve said many times that I am really challenged when it comes to making cards with different folds and shapes. Well the good news for me is The Paper Cut sells card kits with all different styles and folds. My card was made using the Outer Stair Step Card kit.  My kit is all white cardstock but it is offered in lots of different colors and comes with envelopes.  So if you are like me and want to try your hand playing with different card folds and shapes then you will enjoy shopping this site.  Next, I’m going to try my hand making a Pop -Up Box Card

My project was made using Rubbernecker Stamps Light House, Boats #1, Waves, Deckle Hills, Grass #2 and Small Birds.

Come see how I made this die cut lighthouse step card.

The Step Card Base

  • Apply Tumbled Glass ink to large card base section and tallest step layer using an ink blending tool and cloud stencil.
  • Cut the sand layers using Kraft cardstock and apply Antique Linen ink directly to the layers with the ink pad.
  • Cut the wave layers using aqua cardstock.  One layer to fit all the way across the whole card base and four to fit the step layers.
  • Apply white embossing paste to the wave layers by dabbing it on with your finger and sprinkle on clear glitter and allow to dry.
  • Attach the long wave layer to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Attach the back sand layer to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Attach the front sand layer to the card base using strips of mounting tape.

The Light House and Boats

  • Cut the light house out using red cardstock and again in white cardstock.
  • Attach the sections together using glossy accents and double stick tape.
  • Tuck the light house in behind the sand layer and attach with mounting tape.
  • Cut the boats using red, white and blue cardstock.
  • Attach the pieces together with glossy accents.
  • Tuck the boats in between the wave layers and attach with glossy accents.

Come see how I made this pretty die cut lighthouse step card.

The Seagrass and Flying Birds

  • Cut the grass sprigs using green cardstock and tuck them in behind the sand layers and attach them using glossy accents.
  • Cut the birds using white cardstock and apply Pumice Stone ink to the wings using a mini applicator.
  • Attach one bird to the sky area by the light house using a small piece of mounting tape.
  • Cut two strips of clear acetate sheet and attach the birds using glossy accents.
  • Tuck the strips in behind the sand layer and wave layer using glossy accents.
  • I took a close up photo (above) because the flying birds were hard to see in the main photos.

Come see how I made this sunny die cut lighthouse step card.

I had so much fun making the die cut lighthouse step card.  I think I have to make another one soon.  Thanks for coming by and I hope you have been inspired to make a step card of your own.
