Handmade Christmas Cards With Dogs

Here’s another cute idea for handmade Christmas cards with dogs!

For those of us who are parents to puppers, is there any such thing as too many ideas for handmade Christmas cards with dogs? I didn’t think so. I love this die set so much because I can create so many different cute little furry friends from it and today this fella is sending you holiday wishes from his decorated puppy hut.  And even though I’ve created this for Christmas with his colored lights adorning his home, MOST of us leave our lights up for a while so this card is terrific for any winter greeting.

make some handmade Christmas cards with dogs like this one using the dies from Rubbernecker to recreate your own fur baby

The Card Base, Greenery and Snow Layers

  • Use light blue cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base.
  • Apply falling snow to the sky area using a white gel pen.
  • Cut two snow layers using white cardstock and a Deckle Hills die.
  • Cut the greenery branches using green cardstock.

The Dog

  • Use white, cream and black cardstock to cut the dog parts.
  • Attach the body parts together using glossy accents.
  • Use red and white gingham ribbon to make a scarf for the dog.
  • Use your snips to cut strips on the ends of the ribbon and fan them out to create fringe.
  • Attach the scarf to the dog using glue dots

The Dog House, Tree and Christmas Lights

  •  Use woodgrain cardstock to cut the dog house.
  • Cut a background piece to place on the back of the house.
  • Color the house parts using a wet baby wipe and brown ink and dry with a heat gun.
  • Cut the Christmas lights using red, green, yellow and blue cardstock.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the lights along the roof line in a repeat pattern.
  • Attach the piece back section to the back of the dog house using mounting tape.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the roof of the house and attach to the house making sure to allow the lights to show.
  • Attach several tiny white snow circles to the dog house using glossy accents.
  • Apply two tiny holly leaves and tiny red circles to the front of the dog house using glossy accents and apply red stickles to add a touch of sparkle.
  • Cut the tree using dark brown cardstock.  Pro Tip:  Ink colored cardstock like used on the dog house will bleed into the white paste and turn it brown.

handmade Christmas cards with dogs are always popular, especially when loaded with these snowy tree, Christmas lights and customized dog details made using dies from Rubbernecker

Applying Embossing Paste Snow

  • Apply white embossing paste to the tree, roof and white snow layers using a small stylus.
  • Dip the tips of the greenery into the embossing paste.
  • Sprinkle clear glitter on the embossing paste before it dries.
  • Allow the embossing paste to dry well before assembling the scene.

Assemble The Scene

  • Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the back snow layer and attach it directly to the card base. Pro Tip:  Leave enough space on the bottom of the snow layer without embossing paste so the second layer can be attached.  Mounting tape doesn’t stick well to embossing paste.
  • Apply a strip of mounting tape to the back of the front snow layer and attach it to the card base.
  • Apply a strip of mounting tape to the back of the tree trunk and thin rolled up ropes of double stick tape to the back of a few key branches, tuck iit in behind the snow layer and attach to the card base.
  • Use a large piece of mounting tape applied to the back of the dog house, tuck it in behind the front snow layer and attach to the card base.
  • Tuck the greenery branches in behind the snow layer and attach using glossy accents.
  • Cut tiny birds using red cardstock and attach to the tree, sky and greenery using tiny pieces of mounting tape.
  • Attach the dog to the house using mounting tape.
