This Christmas tree die cut is like no other!
There are tons of styles of a Christmas tree die cut out there and I am just loving that the new Slimline Christmas Tree die set from Kittiekraft by Rubbernecker lets me make Christmas trees in any size! Take, for instance this sweet little tree, loaded with ornaments, just waiting to be surrounded by carolers! And all those ornaments – all the different shapes and sizes and styles – were made with one handy die that will cut them all out for you with one spin through your machine.
This is the same tree that I used in the The Perfect Slimline Tree, Christmas Tree Die, and Funny Christmas Card with Dogs. So you can see that by leaving off a few of the layers or extending the size of the tree I was able to create a lush, pretty Christmas tree die cut that fits perfectly on all of these cards!
While there are a lot of steps to this particular card, it IS loaded with details, like that mirror card stock mirror. You could feature just that beautifully loaded tree on a card and it would be stunning. Let’s take a look at everything and then you can choose how much detail you want to add.
The Card Base
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base.
- Use colorful designer paper to cut a 5.50″ x 4.25″ layer.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the designer paper and attach it to the front of the white card base.
The Fire Place
- Use white cardstock to cut two sections of the main fireplace and glue them together using glossy accents. Pro Tip: Gluing two sections of fireplace together give it a more substantial look.
- Use black cardstock to cut two sections of the very top of the fireplace and glue them together. Pro Tip: There is a thin strip die with the set to cut the bottom hearth piece but I love using the top of the fireplace for the hearth. I cut it right at the bottom of the main decorative part of the mantle.
- Use red cardstock to cut two sections of the brick section from the Santa Stuck set, secure all the negative pieces in place with 1/2″ double stick tape.
- Remove the tape backing from the brick section and attach it to a scrap piece of cardstock and use a mini applicator to apply orange and brown inks to create the “real” brick appearance. Pro Tip: The brick section is not big enough to tonally fill the inside of the fireplace. Attaching two together created a large enough piece and the seam line is well hidden with the flames.
- Use black cardstock to cut the grate and woodgrain cardstock to cut the logs.
- Cut the flames using bright yellow cardstock, apply yellow stickles to each section and set aside to dry.
- Apply mounting tape to the back of the fireplace, attach the brick section and then attach the to the card base.
- Attach the black hearth section to the fireplace using double stick tape.
- Attach the logs and flames to the grate, tuck them in behind the hearth piece and attach to the brick using mounting tape.
The Christmas Tree
- Use green cardstock to cut the tree sections, use your fingers to curl up the bottom fringe of each section and attach them together using glossy accents.
- Cut the small Christmas lights and large star using yellow cardstock.
- Attach the lights to a long metallic gold twine using glossy accents. Pro Tip: Stretch out the gold twine and secure both ends with tape. This holds the twine in place white attaching the lights.
- Begin attaching the twine and lights to the top back of the tree using a glue dot, continue winding back and forth and attach each section to the back of the tree using glue dots until finished. Pro Tip: After I applied the string of lights to the tree I applied tiny pop dots to the back of the lights to hold them away from the body of the tree.
- Use dark and light pink cardstock to cut the ornaments, use a VersaMark marker to apply versa to the top of each ornament, apply gold embossing powder and heat.
- Apply tiny pop dots to the back of the ornaments and attach them to the tree.
- Attach the star to the tree using glossy accents and then attach the whole tree to the card base using mounting tape. Note: I knew the tree would cover a section of the fireplace but I loved how homey it made the scene look.
The Scene Accessories
- Cut the mirror using silver foil cardstock and the frame using white cardstock.
- Place the frame section face down on the VersaMark pad, push down in to the pad to get good coverage, apply gold embossing powder and heat with the heat gun.
- Attach the mirror inside the frame, attach together using double stick tape and attach to the card base using mounting tape. Note: The mirror did not photograph well but is really perfect in person.
- Use green cardstock to cut the holly leaves, dark pink cardstock to cut the ornaments and candles and yellow cardstock to cut the candle flames.
- Attach the flames to the candles using glossy accents and attach them to the mirror using pieces of mounting tape. Note: If you look closely you can see the flame reflections in the mirror.
- Attach the holly leaves to the mantle using glossy accents to create the arrangement.
- Use glossy accents to attach the tiny pink ornaments to the holly.
- Use white, dark and light pink cardstock to cut the stockings, assemble and attach the pieces using glossy accents and attach to the mantle using glossy accents.
- Cut the packages using dark pink and light pink cardstock, attach gold twine bows using using tiny glue dots and attach them to the scene using small pieces of mounting tape.
- Finish by applying yellow stickles to the Christmas tree lights, star and candle flames.
I know that a project with this much detail is not for everyone but building each individual section of the card is simple and combining them all together on one card makes it magical. Well…magical to me! 🙂
