What better way to depict Christmas Eve than with this Santa Claus double shutter card?
I love making Christmas cards and to show off the excitement of Christmas Eve I figured what was better than a whole scene with the big guy and his sleigh – this Santa Claus DOUBLE shutter card is the result!
Shutter Card Base and Night Background
- Color all the folds and borders of the white shutter card base using a black marker.
- Place a full 8.50″ x 11.00″ piece of black cardstock in the splatter box, splatter using white gesso and splatter brush and allow to dry.
- Cut four 2.00″ x 5.25″ black splatter layers and one 4.00″ x 5″25″ layer.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the four folded layers and the one main center layer.
Village and Snow Layers
- Use white cardstock to cut several sections of the Slimline Hills and cut to size for layering and attach them to the card base. Pro Tip: Make sure that the snow layers line up on each row for a continuous flowing scene.
- Attach each snow layer to the card base using ATG adhesive.
- Use white cardstock to cut all the little village building and green cardstock to cut several sets of the tiny trees.
- Cut small pieces of yellow cardstock to fit on the back of the buildings and attach using glossy accents.
- Apply touches of yellow stickles to the windows and set aside to dry.
- Tuck the building in behind the snow layers and attach using pieces mounting tape.
- Attach the trees to the snow layers using small pieces of mounting tape.
- Cut one tiny star and attach it to the largest middle tree using glossy accents.
Santa and Sleigh
- Use red, white, gold and black cardstock to cut the Santa sections and attach them together using glossy accents.
- Cut the packages using red and green cardstock and attach the bows using glossy accents.
- Use red cardstock to cut the sleigh and metallic gold foil cardstock to cut the sleigh trim and runners.
- Attach the top sleigh trim using rolled up strips of double stick tape and the runners using glossy accents.
- Tuck the Santa and presents in behind the sleigh and attach them using mounting tape and glossy accents. Pro Tip: Attaching Santa using mounting tape so he would appear in the sleigh normally and not flat up against the edge of the sleigh.
- Attach Santa and the sleigh to the card base using pieces of mounting tape.
Reindeer and Reins
- Cut the five reindeer using white cardstock.
- Apply beige ink to cover the whole body of of each reindeer using mini applicators.
- Use brown ink and a mini applicator to shade the bodies, hooves and antlers.
- Attach the antlers to the deer using glossy accents.
- Use red cardstock to cut the harness sections and attach them to the deer using glossy accents.
- Cut sections of the gold string to use for reins.
- Attach two 3.00″ sections of string to the back of Santa’s hands using glue dots.
- Attach the ends of Santa’s reins and the second set of reins to the back neck of the first reindeer using glue dots and attach it to the card base using mounting tape
- Continue adding the gold reins to the reindeer until they are flying all the way across the sky. Pro Tip: I made sure that the shutter flaps could close on each side and would show Santa and Sleigh with the last reindeer showing on the other side.
