Today’s pretty spring scene card was inspired by an older project and I love the fresh twist!
I really like making scene cards, especially outdoor scenes so I can use all the gorgeously detailed dies from Rubbernecker. Taking a looking back at some of my favorite posts from the past for inspiration these popped up in my search and I was indeed inspired! I poked around a little more and saw this Die Cut Tree and Chair Scene I posted a few years ago. I used a favorite motif – an inviting, comfortable outdoor chair – to create this pretty spring scene card and while I often mix colors of flowers, I just kept going with the pink and I just love how it turned out.
To make this card I used the Rubbernecker Half Tree, Beach Chairs, Tiny Leaves #2, Tiny Flowers #2. Leaves and Greenery, Grass, Grass #2, Small Butterflies and Outside Scallop Frame and Inside Scallop Frame. I love layering frames to add more visual weight to my scene cards and this time, I sited the tree on the OUTside of the frame and I feel like it really invites you in.
Here are my steps for the making – follow along and if you ever have any questions, drop me a note in the comments!
Card Base, Frame and Grass
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and a 5.25″ x 4.00″ layer.
- Apply Beachside ink to the white layer using a blender brush.
- Cut the Inside Scallop Frame and Outside Scallop Frame sections using white cardstock.
- Turn the frames face down and attach them together using strips of double stick tape.
- Apply strips of mounting tape all the way around the back of the frame. Pro Tip: You can attempt to attach the frames together with mounting tape alone but in my experience it is a bit more difficult to make sure the sections are perfectly lined up.
- Use green cardstock to cut two Grass sections.
- Attach one grass section to the back of the frame’s mounting tape.
- Adhere the blue layer to the back of the frame and then attach the completed frame layer to the card base using strips of double stick tape.
- Apply a strip of mounting tape to the back of the second grass layer and attach it to the front of the frame.
The Tree and Flowers
- Use Kraft cardstock to cut the Half Tree.
- Apply Pecan ink to the tree using a wet baby wipe and dry it well with your heat gun. Pro Tip: Adhesives like glossy accents, glue dots and double stick tape won’t adhere to wet ink on cardstock. You will have much better success attaching pieces like leaves and flowers to a well dried die cut.
- Cut several sections of the Tiny Leaves #2 using green cardstock, place them face up on the molding pad and gently form them using a leaf tool or small stylus.
- Cut several sections of the Tiny Flowers #2 using pink cardstock. Note: Cut enough flowers to use around the tree and chair.
- Place the flowers face up and form them by pushing down in the centers using a small tipped stylus.
- Fill in the tree branches by attaching the leaves using glossy accents. Pro Tip: I use reverse tweezers to pick up and attach tiny pieces like the leaves and flowers. They make the task so much easier than using your fingers or a pick-up tool like QuickStik. It has been my experience that the sticky tip won’t release the flower or leaf when trying to attach them to the branches with adhesive.
- Follow the same steps by attaching the flowers to the leaves using glossy accents.
- Apply double stick tape to the back of the tree trunk and tiny pop dots to back of several key leaves.
- Tuck the tree in behind the front grass section and attach it to the frame and card base.
The Comfy Chair, Foliage and More Flowers
- Use white cardstock to cut the Beach Chair, apply a small pieces of mounting tape to the back legs of the chair, tuck it in behind the grass and attach to the card.
- Use green cardstock to cut sections of Grass #2 and Leaves and Greenery.
- Apply glossy accents to the greenery branches, tuck them in behind the grass and around the back of the tree and chair and attach using glossy accents.
- Tuck the grass pieces behind the grass strips and around the chair and attach using glossy accents. Pro Tip: The additional grass tips sticking up above the main grass layers softens the transition between the grass and scene background. Little details like this makes a card more interesting and natural looking.
- Finish the scene by attaching two pink Small Butterflies to the base and chair using glossy accents.

This pretty spring scene card can, of course, be modified in so many ways so you should just sit down and play with your dies and see what you come up with. You can mix the flower colors and styles, substitute another element for the chair, add some little critters…… Truly, this is an endlessly versatile project!
