Come see how I made a card with paper scraps to make the details look like china!
Can you believe I made this card made with paper scraps? I had a strip leftover from when I made this card and since I just love every pattern in Rubbernecker’s Welcome Spring 6×6 Paper Pad I can’t bear to throw any of it away! So I had this little strip in my scrap stash and decided that I could turn into a fine china pattern using the new Teapots and Cups and turned it all into this card. I used the Decorative Floral Circle, Leaves and Greenery, Small Flowers #5, and some retired dies I had in my stash to round it out and I really love how it looks.
Let me share the making with you so you can try it out.
Card Base and Frame
- Use purple cardstock to cut an A2 [5.50″ x 4.25″) card base.
- Cut the Decorative Floral Circle using white cardstock.
- Line up the Nested Circles die over the front side of the decorative circle and secure in place with masking tape.
- Place them on the cutting platform and run through the machine.
- Place a long strip of mounting tape on a clean work surface and use your finger to roll it into a thin rope.
- Attach the rope all the way around the back of the frame.
- Cut a second frame using a smaller die in the set and trim the outer border to fit behind the decorative circle.
- Attach the second frame to the decorative frame to create a mat. Pro Tip: Creating a mat for a frame adds more interest and dimension.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attach it to the card base.
Teapot, Cups and Accessories Made With My Paper Scraps
- The cut Teapot and Cups using paper from the Welcome Spring 6×6 Paper Pad.
- Use gold metallic cardstock to cut the teapot lid, spoons and cups trim. Note: I cut another set of cups using the gold cardstock, trimmed off the tops to use for the cup trim.
- Attach the teapot lid, cup trim and a spoon to one cup using connect glue.
- Attach the teapot and cups to the card base and frame using mounting tape.
- Use white cardstock to cut one section of the Nested Scallop Squares using the smallest die and cut it into four sections to use for napkins.
- Attach the second spoon to a napkin using connect glue.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the napkins and attach them to the frame.
Floral Arrangement
- Cut several Small Flowers #5 using white cardstock, place them face up on the molding pad and form using a small tipped stylus.
- Use green cardstock to cut several sections of the Leaves and Greenery.
- Arrange and attach the branches to the frame using glossy accents.
- Attach the flowers to the greenery using glossy accents.
- Finish by Attaching tiny purple flower centers using glossy accents.
I am so tickled that I was able to make something that looks so special from scraps! Here are the other things from Rubbernecker I used today:

I am getting a kick out of this card made with paper scraps and am now going to sift through my stash of leftover pieces. I am going to be on the lookout for other patterns that can stand in for a china pattern and experiment!
This is a very elaborate-looking card. I can’t quite see all the details with all the busyness. So if I were to make it, I’d leave the fancy frame out of the composition. However, I do like the teapot, cups and the mini floral garland. Using scraps from that paper pad is genius.
Thank you, Twila! I thought the elegant frame was perfect to highlight the elegant teapot and cups.
Stunning design using your scraps, turning out very exquisite and stunning x
Absolutely beautiful….would love a video on this!
