Come see some easy tips to make this realistic see through window card – give them a peek into a secret world!
I had so much fun making this realistic see through window card and while I made a similar one before, I absolutely love this bird house and thought it would be a cute addition, especially paired with a watchful kitty. This card was made using Rubbernecker’s Window 4 Pane die, the Large Bird House, Leaves and Greenery, Borders #2, Grass, Grass #2, Small Flowers #4, Tiny Flowers #2, Small Birds, and Cats dies (phew!) and their Repeating Brick Stencil and Off The Grid 6×6 Paper Pad.
Don’t be scared off by all the die sets I used! I like to mix and match designs and elements from different themes because I feel like then what I make looks a lot like nature – lots of variety in size, shape and style. If you want to try this card but haven’t yet acquired a huge stash, use what you have – you will still end up with something gorgeous.
Card Base
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 (5.50″ x 4.25″) sized card base.
- Score down the center of the card base at the 5.50″ with the 11.00″ side along the top of the Scor-Pal.
- Secure the card base and Repeating Bricks Stencil in place with masking tape and add shades of Citrus and Pumpkin ink using an ink blending tool.
- Finish the stenciling by randomly applying light touches of Pecan ink to create a more natural looking brick.
- Cut a 5.25″ X 4.00″ piece of Off the Grid 6×6 Paper Pad and attach to the inside back of the card base.
See Through Window
- Cut two Window 4 Pane section, one for the front and one to cover the opening on the inside.
- Use the inner window openings as a template to draw cut lines on the card base. Note: The step by step photos are from a different project but the technique is exactly the same.
- Cut the window opening 1/8″ outside the template lines using a craft knife.
- Apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of one window and attach it over the front opening.
- Use white cardstock to cut the Borders #3, trim to fit inside the window and run it through the straight crimper.
- Apply double stick tape to the front side of the window shade.
- Attach the window shade piece directly to the back of the window opening on the inside of the card. Note: The picture below shows the shade cut too large to fit the inside of the window. I failed to remember to take a photo of the correct shade size.
- Apply double stick tape to the back of the second window and attach it on the inside to cover the raw cut of the window lines for a nice finish.
Die Cut Birdhouse Assembly
- Use aqua and white cardstock to cut the Large Birdhouse parts.
- Apply Pecan ink to the post using a mini applicator.
- Apply rolled up double stick tape to the back of the roof and floor base and attach them to the birdhouse.
- Cover the whole of the birdhouse using a piece of aqua cardstock and attach it to the back of the birdhouse using mounting tape.
- Attach the post of the birdhouse using a strip of mounting tape.
- Apply a large piece of mounting tape to the back of the birdhouse and attach it to the card base.
Grass, Flowers, Foliage, Birds and That Interested Cat
- Use green cardstock to cut the Grass and Grass #2 sections.
- Attach the grass section to the card base using a strip of mounting tape.
- Use aqua cardstock to cut sets of the Tiny Flower Buds and aqua cardstock to cut the Small Flowers #4.
- Place the flowers on the molding pad and form them using a tiny tipped stylus.
- Cut a few sections of Leaves and Greenery using green cardstock.
- Attach the flowers to the foliage sections using glossy accents.
- Attach sections of foliage to the birdhouse and post using glossy accents.
- Attach the aqua flowers to several individual foliage sections using glossy accents, tuck them in behind the grass and attach using glossy accents.
- Tuck a few of the individual grass sections in behind the grass to add softness to the arrangement.
- Cut the Birds using red cardstock and attach them to the sky, birdhouse and grass using small pieces of mounting tape.
- Cut the Cat using white cardstock and apply Color Fuse Mocha and Pecan ink using a mini applicator.
- Tuck the cat inside the window and attach using glossy accents.
Here are all the things from Rubbernecker that I used – remember, I am on their Design Team so I have an extensive stash!
