Come see how to make this charming wintry scene card handmade with die cuts for almost every element – so easy and so detailed!
Today I have for you a wintry scene card handmade with die cuts for everything except the embossed snowy background and the stamped sentiment. Building a card with die cuts is such an easy way to add loads of details, dimension and to tell a story. For this card I used Rubbernecker’s Truck, Birch Forest, Evergreen Tree, Deckle Hills, Small Birds, Greenery #3, and Christmas Mini (for the star dies), with a sentiment from their May the Season stamp set.
Let me share my steps for the making – you will see how the die cuts really save so much time and effort!
Card Base, Die Cut Birch Forest and Snow Layer
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and a 5.25″ x 4.00″ layer.
- Use a falling snow embossing folder to emboss the white layer and attach it to the card base using double stick tape. Pro Tip: I trimmed about a 1/16″ off the bottom and one side of the embossed layer to make sure it wouldn’t show behind the tree frame.
- Cut the Birch Forest using white cardstock, apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the tree frame and attach it to the card base.
- Use white cardstock to cut a Deckle Hills snow layer, secure it and the May the Season sentiment in the MISTI and stamp using nocturne ink.
- Apply a strip of mounting tape to the back of the snow layer and attach it to the tree frame.
- You can see how all these die cut layers really build up a scene with lots of dimension, both from the lifted layers and all the detail that creates more visual texture.
The Die Cut Truck
- Cut the truck parts using red, gray and black cardstock.
- Attach the fender to the truck using rolled strips of double stick tape for even more subtle dimension. Simply run a strip of tape onto your craft mat and roll it with your fingertip to create a smaller dimension version of foam tape adhesive!
- Use glossy accents to attach the wheel sections together and attach them to truck base using glossy accents.
- Cut tiny Greenery #3 sprigs using green cardstock, trim off a couple tips and attach to the truck using glossy accents.
- Punch out 1/8″ red circle, attach to the sprigs using glossy accents and add sparkle using a touch of red stickles.
Fancy Up The Evergreen Tree Die Cut
- Use green cardstock to cut out a tree from the Evergreen Tree.
- Crimp the tree using a straight crimper. Pro Tip: Most people think the crimper is old school, have them buried and have no idea where to find them. I keep mine close at hand because I love how it adds dimension and interest to die cuts like the trees or drapes in a window.
- Cut the mini star from the Christmas Mini set, attach it to the top of the tree using glossy accents and apply yellow stickles for sparkle.
Finish the Scene
- Attach the tree to the back of the truck using a piece of mounting tape.
- Apply a piece of mounting tape to the front back side of the truck and a touch of glossy accents to the back of the tree, tuck it in behind the snow layer and attach to the trees.
- Attach tiny white circle snowflakes to the truck and tree using connect glue.
- Cut the Cardinals using red cardstock, color their beaks with a black marker and attach them to the scene using tiny pieces of mounting tape.
See all that delicious depth? Adding these die cut layers and elements with different thicknesses from the background create that realistic depth that is so pleasing to the eye and helps the other details pop.

Love this right down to the little bird by the sentiment!
Wonderful artistic card! You rock!
Beautiful!
Super cute. Love all the layers. The iconic red truck with a Christmas tree in the back reminds me of my childhood. TFS.
