Come see how to make a die cut holly wreath with lots of dimension and texture using nothing more than dies and paper!
When you use dies to cut the shapes you need, knowing how to make a die cut holly wreath gets that much easier! I used Rubbernecker’s Holly #1, Greenery #1Greenery 15162-09D BB, and Wreath dies to make the foliage for this darling winter wreath and set it inside a quick and easy frame made with their Inside Scallop Nested and Inside Scallop Frame dies. Setting the whole thing atop a pattern from their Snowy Wonder 6×6 Paper Pad creates a beautiful card made with nothing but paper and glue!
I love using die cuts for all my dimensional elements because they are so easy to shape and group to create any design you envision. Let me share with you how I made this wreath come to life so you can try it, too.
Card Base and Double Die Cut Frame
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base.
- Cut the Inside Scallop Nested layer using green cardstock and attach it to the card base using double stick tape.
- Use red cardstock to cut the Inside Scallop Frame.
- Cut a rectangle layer to fit behind the frame from the Snowy Wonder 6×6 Paper Pad and attach it to the card base using double stick tape.
- Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the red frame and attach it to the card base.
The Berry and Holly Die Cut Wreath
- Cut several sets of the Holly using light and dark green cardstock and the Wreath base using dark green cardstock.
- Apply touches of Clover ink to the light green holly leaves to mimic the shading in the Snowy Wonder background paper.
- Gently bend each holly leaf with your fingers to add dimension.
- Begin attaching the dark green holly sections to the wreath base using glossy accents. Note: The photos below are using smaller holly sections from the Wreath set but the technique is exactly the same.
- Continue you have completed going all the way around.
- Begin tucking the lighter holly sections in between the darker green leaves and attach using glossy accents.
- Once both the dark and light green holly branches are attached begin tucking the Greenery sections in between to fill in the wreath.
- Punch out several 1/4″ circles using red cardstock.
- Place the circles face down on the molding pad and form them by gently pushing in with a large round stylus.
- Apply tiny pieces of mounting tape to the back of the circles and attach them to the wreath front and in between the layers.
Now look at that – you’ve made a beautiful die cut holly wreath with no muss, no fuss and I am sure it’s FABULOUS! Check out my Simple Handmade Holly Card to see a more simple version using just a few holly branches.
