Come get my tried and true PRO TIPS for how to make mini wreaths for cards and decorate them with these adorable accents!
On today’s card, which I had SO much fun making, I decorated my little tree farm cart with a teeny tiny wreath. When I was done I thought some of you might like to know how to make mini wreaths for cards the way I do because it’s easier than usual, creates a true wreath look and is just so darned adorable! And for handmade holiday cards, these can be the answer to that one more thing you want to add to make your project that much more special.
On this card, I used Rubbernecker’s Cart, Cart Accessories #1, Evergreen Trees, Deckle Hills, Slimline Christmas Tree, Small Classic Alphabet, Tiny Leaves, Winter Village, and Greenery #1, dies and their Splatter Background stamp for my snowy sky look.
Let me share with you the steps so you can try this out.
Card Base and Snow Layer
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and red cardstock to cut a 5.50″ 4.25″ layer.
- Attach the red layer to the card base using double stick tape.
- Cut a 5.25″ x 4.00″ layer using Kraft cardstock.
- Secure the Kraft layer and Splatter Background stamp in the MISTI and stamp using white pigment ink.
- Apply white embossing powder to the Kraft layer and heat.
- Use double stick tape to attach the Kraft layer to the card base.
- Cut a single Deckle Hills snow layer using white cardstock.
- Apply a strips of mounting tape to the back of the snow layer and attach it to the card base.
The Die Cut Tree Farm Cart
- Cut the Cart sections using red and white cardstock.
- Color the wheel using a brown marker.
- Use white cardstock to cut the Small Classic Alphabet and green cardstock to cut the tiny Christmas trees from the Winter Village set.
- Attach the letters and tiny trees to the front of the card section using connect glue.
- Attach the white sections to the red canopy using connect glue.
- Use pieces of mounting tape to attach the cart base and wheel to the card base.
- Apply double stick tape to the back top of the canopy and pieces of mounting to the back scallop sections and attach it to the card base. Pro Tip: Attaching the top of the canopy flat to the card base allowed me to show dimension along the bottom scalloped edge.
Trees and Accessories
- Use red cardstock to cut the tiny pots and flowers from the Cart Accessories #1 set.
- Use green cardstock to cut the Greenery #1 and Tiny Leaves #1 sections.
- Snip off the tiny individual greenery branch sections and attach them to the back of the flower pots using glossy accents.
- Place the tiny red flowers face up on the molding pad and push down in the centers with a tiny tipped stylus.
- Attach the flowers to the greenery branches and finish by attaching tiny yellow circles to the centers. Pro Tip: I save the tiny negative die cut circles from cutting scallop dies and use them for flower centers, falling snow, etc.
- Tuck the flower pots behind the card base and snow layer and attach using pieces of mounting tape.
How to Make The Mini Wreath
- Punch out a .75″ circle using green cardstock.
- Cut out the center to create a tiny wreath base and attach the two ends together using glossy accents.
- Begin adding the tiny leaves to the wreath base using glossy accents and continue around until the base is covered. Note: The picture below was taken using different foliage but the technique is exactly the same.
- Attach tiny red circles around the wreath using glossy accents and finish with a tiny red bow. Pro Tip: I created the tiny bow using a very thin strip of red cardstock; I soften the strip by running it through my fingers a couple of time and then bend it into the bow shape.
- Apply glossy accents to the back of the wreath and attach it to the canopy.
Finishing the Card
- Cut Evergreen Trees using different colors of green cardstock and run them through the straight crimper.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the trees, tuck them in behind the snow layer and attach to the card base.
- Cut a yellow star from the Slimline Christmas Tree and attach it to the card base with a piece of mounting tape.
- Finish by applying touches of yellow Stickles for a sparkly shine.
Isn’t that adorable? I love how all the little details came together to look so realistic. I can practically smell the fresh cut trees!
