How To Make a Tiny Die Cut Christmas Tree

Come see an easy way to make a tiny die cut Christmas tree that you put on any card for some instant holiday cheer!

Today I am sharing a quick and easy way to make a tiny die cut Christmas tree that turns out to have so much detail with so little work! You can use this adorable little decoration as part of a whole Christmas scene on a card or use it as I did here – just tucked into a die cut frame assembly that makes this single precious element the star of the show.

For the frame I used a retired Nested Circle set (you can use any circles you have) and Rubbernecker’s Decorative Floral Circle, die to layer together some pieces to create that little spotlighted area. For the tree I used Rubbernecker’s Greenery #1, Tiny Ornaments, and Christmas Mini die set (for that teeny star).

I’d love to share my little tips and tricks with you for how I made this card.

Card Base and The Layered Die Cut White on White Frame

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 [5.50″ x 4.25″) card base.
  • Cut the Decorative Floral Circle using white cardstock.

  • Line up the Nested Circles die over the front side of the decorative circle and secure in place with masking tape.
  • Place them on the cutting platform and run through the machine.

rolled double stick tape 2

  • Place a long strip of double stick tape on a clean work surface and use your finger to roll it into a thin rope.
  • Attach the rope all the way around the back of the frame.

  • Cut a piece of white cardstock, cut a second frame using a smaller die in the set and trim the outer border to fit behind the decorative circle.
  • Attach the second frame to the decorative frame to create a mat.  Pro Tip:  Creating a mat for a frame adds more interest and dimension.

  • Apply pieces of mounting tape around the back of the frame base and attach it to the card base.

Use simple die cuts to make a tiny die cut Christmas tree, decorate with tiny embellishments and you have a charming miniature element to add to a very fast and easy white on white card base.

The Tiny Die Cut Christmas Tree

Cut several sections of the Greenery #1 and trim off the individual branches off of each branch.

  • Start at the top of the tree and attach the first  branch straight up using glossy accents.

  • Attach two branches to the tree, turning one to the left and one to the right.
  • Continue the pattern three more times:  one branch straight, one left and one right.

  • Continue adding branches: one straight, two left and two right.

  • Continue adding branches and increase the number of branches in each step to widen the tree.
  • I ended with five branches across to finish.

Decorate the Miniature Die Cut Christmas Tree

  • Cut several Tiny Ornaments using red cardstock and a tiny star from the Christmas Mini set using yellow cardstock.
  • Tiny several tiny bows using metallic gold twine.
  • Attach the ornaments, star and bows to the tree using glossy accents.
  • Apply red stickles to the ornaments and yellow stickles to the star.  Set aside to dry.
  • Apply a generous amount of glossy accents to the back of the tree, tuck it in behind the frame and attach it to the card base.
  • Add one more bow to the edge of the frame to cover the center of the tree.

Isn’t that so precious? And since there’s not really one way to make it, you can just sit there and snip and glue and no matter what, you will end up with something ideal.
