Good Thursday morning and welcome to the Impression Obsession “Let’s Hear it for the Boys” design team challenge.
For my project I used the Classic Truck image paired with the Grass Border and Leafy Branch 2.
I had such a wonderful time water coloring this image using my waterbrush and Distress Ink reinkers. There is lots of scenery in the background to color but the real fun for me was to make the truck look as old and rusty as possible.
I painted the whole truck with a light layer of blue and then shaded with darker blue. I heat dried completely before moving on to the step of adding the rust.
I added rust by brushing a dry brush over the ink pad to add just enough ink to apply to the image using a stipple motion. I continuously went back to the ink pad to gather more ink on the brush. The dry brush stipple technique allows the rust color to be layered over the blue instead of instead of washed into it making it murky. I hope that made sense. Here’s a closer view.
OK. So I know this is a guy card but I couldn’t resist adding a few tree branches to the frame since there is a huge tree trunk in the background scene.
Why don’t you come along and play with us. To enter the challenge go to the Impression Obsession Blog (all the details are there!). A random challenge card will be selected to showcase on the IO blog and you can to enter to win a $25 gift certificate to IO just by playing!
I hope you will go check out what the other IO teams members created for the challenge. Thanks for coming by today.

Fabulous job coloring that old, rusty truck. Couldn’t be a better masculine card than this.
The BEST rust job ever….. Love the look of your old truck and it makes the perfect Manly Card….
Thanks for sharing you tek on the rust too!
What a fantastic guy card! The truck looks AMAZING! And the branches are perfect to go with that big old tree!
I LOVE this card! Your watercolor skills are incredible! Love the tree branches and grass….perfect!!

The coloring on the truck (especially) is AMAZING, just AMAZING. Wow, it’s just beyond fabulous!!!
Thanks for sharing! What a great stamp image!!
Love how the die-cuts are both inside and outside the frame, mixing 3D and 2D. LOvely coloring on th truck too..
Good Morning Kittie, Love this stamp, and your coloring makes it look like an oil painting. Very well done. the accents add to the special image….love it , love it.
Oh my, Kittie, I think you’ve outdone yourself. This card is fantastic! Your truck looks so life like! I live in the country and as I drive past fars, I see these old trucks sitting on the sides, rusting away. You really captured what I see in real life! This is one card I would give my husband and then frame it and hang in my craft room. WOW!
A large number of my cards are of the ‘manly’ variety. I also (as did many others who commented) love your ‘rust’. I often ‘diamond plate’ – embossing folder looks like truck bed or truck tool box – my layers….I plan to start rusting the layers also…I am soo very inspired…thanks bunches!
OMGoodness Kittie!!!
Your card is FABULOUS.
That truck looks REAL!
Fantastic rust technique…
Hugs, Candy
What a wonderful technique. This card is so masculine and we all need guy cards. A fab job as always.
This is FABULOUS! I didn’t think I needed Rusty Hinge, but… now that you’ve made it look so good, I NEED to run out and get me some lol! Wonderful card!!!
Wow! This card is just great! Beautiful job.
