Poinsettia, Holly and Blog Candy

Good Sunday morning.  As promised in my post yesterday I put down the Hero Arts Snowy Tree set.  But with that said I still made a Christmas card for the Splitcoaststampers Featured Stamper Challenge and Tracy Fehr is the featured artist this week.  After browsing through Tracy’s gallery it was her Poinsettia Swirls card that Inspired my project for today.  I used the Impression Obsession Large Poinsettia Set, Small Poinsettia Set, Ornate Oval Frame, Flourish, Most Wonderful Time sentiment and the new Penny Black Bird Amidst Holly.  You can read more about my blog candy offer at the bottom of my post.

I stamped the sentiment on vanilla cream cardstock using Stampin’ Up! Old Olive pigment ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. I think the sentiment would pop more if it had been stamped in red but it is what it is. I die cut the ornate frame, used it as a template to draw an oval around the sentiment, hand cut the sentiment to fit behind the frame and attached them together using double stick tape. Wow…that was a mouthful!  I hope it made sense. I used the two smaller flowers from the large set and the largest from the small set for the poinsettia.  I cut one of the larger flowers in green for the foliage.  I used my stylus and molding pad to form the petals on the flowers and assembled the layers together attaching with glossy accents. The holly was cut twice and formed with my stylus and molding pad.  I punched out 1/4” circles for holly berries and attached to the holly with glossy accents. I made the mistake of apply glue and clear glitter to the berries and it made the red fade totally out.  When the glue was dry I colored over the berries with red Wink of Stella. This then led me want some sparkle on the poinsettia so I colored over the leaves with the Wink of Stella.

I attached the framed sentiment to the lower right of the card base with mounting tape.  This left me enough room to arrange the flower and holly. I cut the holly sections apart, arranged them on the frame and attached with glossy accents.  The poinsettia was set in place and attached with glossy accents.  I attached flourish sections to the arrangement with glossy accents. I had one section of holly leaves and berries left so I attached to the bottom of the frame for the finishing touch.

Now for the blog candy.  I love that Ellen Hutson has a wish list section to help us keep track of items we want to purchase when we have recovered financially from the past purchases.  LOL!  I placed the Taylored Expressions Damask Embossing Folder on my list a while back.  I placed an order this past week and ordered the folder “again”.  I hadn’t remembered that I already had ordered  it and failed to remove it from my list.  So my forgetfulness is providing me the opportunity to give the folder as blog candy to one randomly chosen lucky person.  All you have to do is leave a comment on this post by Friday the 16th at 5:00 pm telling what new item/s  you have on your wish list.  I’ll announce the winner on my Saturday morning post.  And you never know…I may dig up some other blog candy gifts to send  to out to a few other randomly drawn winners.

Thanks for coming by and I hope you have a great Sunday.

  3. As usual, your card is stunning and so elegant ! I always find inspiration on your blog, thank you for sharing your creativity with us.
And in addition, for giving us the opportunity to win a gorgeous stamp. I agree with you, the wish list system is excellent. My most recent addition is the Art Impression stacker stamp with the young Reindeers. I love these stacker stamps, they are adorable and I think these Reindeers could make some funny Christmas cards. I’ve got already the dog and, of course, the cats stacker stamps. I’d love also to get the turtles’ one, I love turtles, they are so sweet.
Once again, thank you for giving us so much inspiration. Happy fall !

  16. Beautiful as always. I pinned as always. So many things are on my wish list right now. I would like my students to try stamping on their Mother’s Day cards this year. I managed to get a mini-MISTI but I am hoping to acquire a couple more so the kids don’t have to wait too long to stamp. Our time is limited. I would also like to acquire hand embossing tools so my students can shape floral die cuts. My largest class is 34. Definitely need quite a few sets of those, lol.
