Good Saturday morning. I have one more project using the Hero Arts Color Layering Snowy Tree and Color Layering Snowy Tree Frame Cuts to share with you with today and I promise I’ll focus on something different this next week. This time I combined stamping with heat embossing and watercolor to for my snowy forest scene and created dimension by adding layers and a Bendi Frame. I wanted the deer in my scene to be a little larger than the one with the set so I used the fawn from the Impression Obsession Deer Trio die set. The frame was made using the Nesting Card Templates. I began with hot pressed watercolor paper to use for my scene. I applied Crushed Curry distress Ink to the solid tree stamp, lightly misted with water (from a distance of about 1 1/2 feet) and stamped trees all the way across the page. I used my heat gun to dry the ink the ink on the trees and rubbed the embossing magic bag on the paper to eliminate static cling. Next I used versa to stamp the snowy tree image and the falling snow image and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I repeated the steps and stamped the trees three times on a separate piece of watercolor paper and then cut them out using the coordinating tree die.
Next I used a large round brush to apply a light water wash around the sky area and down in between the trees to prepare the paper for the blue sky wash. I put a good amount of Tumbled Glass Distress Reinker in the lid of my ink pad, add a small amount of water in the lid and mixed with my brush. I began applying the ink wash in the sky area and down in between the trees. I purposefully brushed the blue ink wash close to the tree edges to make the green ink run a little. I loved that it created the appearance of light around the trees. Once I was finished with the sky I went back and brushed a strong mixture of green reinker over the trees to add back some of the color that washed out. I think the Crushed Curry and Tumbled Glass inks created a whimsical non-traditional color combination for the scene. I painted the deer with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress reinkers and then added a light mixture of Squeezed Lemonade reinker and water to create the appearance of light shining on it’s back through the trees. I’m not sure I really accomplished that but I tried. LOL!
I cut the card base to be 5 3/8” by 4 1/4”. There needs to be a 1/8” difference in the card base and the 5 1/5” x 4.25” frame to create the bowed frame. I attached the tree scene layer to the card base with ATG adhesive. I cut two snow ground layers using my deckle scissors, applied versa over both pieces and embossed with white embossing powder. I attached one of the layers to the scene base with a double layer of mounting tape. The second piece was attached to the back of the frame with ATG adhesive. I applied thin strips of mounting tape on both sides of the frame, removed the backing of the tape on one side and attached the frame to the card base. Next I removed the tape backing from the right side of the frame, lightly bowed the frame out and carefully attached it to the right of the card base. I cut an inch or so off the bottom of the three die cut trees so they would be shorter and not cover up the trees in the background. I applied double layers of mounting tape to the back of two of the trees and tucked them in behind the snow layer and attached to the scene base. I applied a triple layer of mounting tape to the front of the third tree and attached it to the back of the front snow layer on the bowed frame. I cut a tiny bit off the rear of the fawn to it could be tucked in behind the tree on the right and attached it with it with a single layer of mounting tape. I cut and painted a little star using Squeezed Lemonade reinker and applied yellow Wink of Stella for a bit of sparkle and attached it in the sky area with a double layer of glue dots to complete the scene.
