A Fall Floral Card Made With Die Cuts

Check out how you can make this beautiful fall floral card made with die cuts and touches of ink.

I just love creating bouquets of die cut flowers and foliage. For this fall floral card made with die cuts I just had to add some pumpkins along with that spectacular sunflower. I used my simple shaping techniques (which I will share more about below, of course!) and some touches of ink to add tons of detail and dimension. This is one of those projects that I am confident that even a beginner can make beautiful. Using lots of small elements ads lots of texture without a lot of extra effort so your larger elements pop even more.

I used Rubbernecker’s Nested Scallop with Holes, Nested Rectangle, and Rectangle Combo OPC #3, dies to make my frame element. I then added in all that gorgeous flora and foliage with a combination of elements from their Mixable Flower Stack, Jack-o-lanterns, Large Ivy, Branches and Leaves, Small Flowers #4, Small Flowers #3 and Tiny Flowers Buds. dies. Of course, you can use what you have on hand. I find that Rubbernecker is so attentive to how they create such beautifully mixable shapes I stick to their flowers, leaves and organic shapes since they are almost certainly going to look beautiful together.

Let me take you through everything step by step so you can not only see how I made each element but then use each of them individually on your own projects later.

Card Base and Frames

  • Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and a Nested Scallop with Holes layer.
  • Place the scalloped layer on the cutting platform, line up and secure the Nested Rectangle die with masking tape and run through the machine to cut the frame opening.
  • Use light blue cardstock to cut the Rectangle Combo OPC frame.  Pro Tip:  If I cut all the frames at the same time, I save the remaining one in the storage with the die.  If I want to save cardstock, I cut a piece that will fit the frame I want and run through the machine.  You can also save more paper if you die cut the center out of the frame leaving just enough to fit the frame size you want.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the scalloped frame and attach it to the card base.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the blue smaller frame and attach it to the white frame.
  • NOTE: This type of frame assembly can be done with any of your favorite dies that will nest together and gives you the perfect “container” for whatever scene you want to create. It’s a great way to reduce the overall space you have to fill, too, so if you ever create a little vignette that you feel is too small for a card front, just make yourself a little framed area and pop it in there!

In shades of orange and pale blue, this fall floral card made with die cuts comes to life with all the flowers, ivy and pumpkins set against a fresh white background.

Pumpkins and Sunflower

  • Use yellow cardstock to cut the yellow sunflower and pumpkins and green cardstock to cut the stems.
  • Use mini applicators to apply light orange and dark orange Color Fuse Ink from Set #2 to color the flower sections and pumpkins (the shade of card stock you start with will determine which shades from the set you choose).  Pro Tip:  Using bright yellow cardstock when coloring and shading orange flowers and pumpkins allows the yellow show through for highlights.
  • NOTE: Check out my Make Die Cut Paper Flowers Look Real blog post to see how I apply color to flower petals and how I use pliers to form them.  The photos show a different flower and different colors but the procedure is the same.
  • Use needle nose pliers to form the flower petals and place them face up on the molding pad.
  • Push down in the center of each flower layer using a small tipped stylus.
  • Attach the flower layers together using glossy accents.
  • Use brown cardstock to cut the Tiny Flower Buds, form them on the molding pad using a tiny tipped stylus and attach them to the flower center.  I added touches of white to the flower center using a white gel pen.

Create the Fall Foliage Arrangement

  • Cut several sets of the Large Ivy using green cardstock, Small Flowers #4 using yellow cardstock and light blue cardstock to cut the Small Flowers #3.
  • Place all the small flowers face up on the molding pad and form them using a tiny tipped stylus.
  • Attach the small blue flower layers together and then attach the tiny white flower centers using glossy accents.  Pro Tip:  I save all the negative circles left from cutting eyelet dies and keep them on hand for flower centers or snowflakes.
  • Punch out several brown 1/8″ circles using a hole punch and attach them to the yellow flower centers using glossy accents.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the two larger pumpkins and attach them to the card base.
  • Attach the smaller pumpkin to the larger pumpkins using a piece of mounting tape.
  • Apply a double layer of mounting tape to the back of the flower and attach it to the card base.
  • Tuck the ivy sections under the pumpkins and flower and attach them using glossy accents.  Pro Tip:  Cut and shorten the ivy branches as necessary to fit the arrangement.
  • Finish by attaching the flowers to the ivy using glossy accents.

Ivy, tiny blossoms, a glorious sunflower and fresh picked pumpkins come together on this pretty fall floral card made with die cuts and touches of ink.

I love how the light blue frame and flowers soften this fall arrangement.  Blue and orange are a perfect color combination to use together – they are opposite each other on the color wheel so the different intensities and shades of each color will complement the other beautifully.

This particular fall floral card made with die cuts feels perfectly autumnal to me, with the pumpkins and sunflower. It kind of makes me want to make a pumpkin pie and roast some sunflower seeds! I hope you get a chance to try out some of these steps and make a card that gives you the fall feels!
