Grab this easy idea for handmade cards using orange and blue for gorgeous color contrast!
I love playing with colors and at this time of year I like to share ideas for handmade cards using orange and blue. With orange and blue across from each other on the color wheel, they are beautifully complementary. I like to mix bolds with pales, muted colors with brights – all the different shades and tones look so pretty set against one another. I used this stunning color combination on A Fall Floral Card Made with Die Cuts and loved it so much I played around some more!
For this simple and pretty card, I used Rubbernecker’s new Pumpkin Outline die for the feature element, added it over a layer made with their Nested Rectangle w/ Small Large Holes, used a design from Rubbernecker’s Harvest Time 6×6 Paper Pad, as the background and added a sentiment from their Give Thanks Sayings.
This handmade gratitude card is really easy to make – scroll down for the details.
Card Base and Decorative Layer
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base.
- Cut a 5.50″ x 4.25″ layer from the Harvest Time 6×6 Paper Pad.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the designer paper layer and attach it to the card base.
- Use white cardstock to cut the smallest die from the Nested Rectangle w/ Large Small Holes.
- Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the decorative layer and attach it to the card base.
Blue and Orange Pumpkin Outline and Sentiment
- Use soft blue cardstock to cut the main Pumpkin Outline section.
- Cut the accessory sections using orange and green cardstock.
- Attach the orange accessory sections to the back of the outline using connect glue. Pro Tip: Connect glue is my favorite to use for this type of technique because it dries perfect clear and won’t show if any squeezes out.
- Inset the green leaf sections to the back of the outline and attach using pieces of double stick tape.
- Apply a generous amount of glossy accents to the back of the Pumpkin Outline and attach it to the decorative layer. Pro Tip: I would normally pop an image like the pumpkin up with mounting tape but I used glossy accents instead since the pumpkin was double layered and already added enough dimension.
- Stamp the Give Thanks Sayings sentiment on a white strip using Versafine Clair Pinecone ink.
- Apply touches of glossy accents to the layer and attach it to the Pumpkin Outline.
